Question

Did any of you have babies that were below their birth weight at 2 weeks? If you did, is your baby measuring okay now? My doctor really didn't seem too concerned but she was 7 oz. below her birth weight at two weeks and so I'm concerned even though I tried not to be. I have such a hard time not worrying about things, but I really need to just calm down and trust that Lila is doing okay. Still, I'd like to hear from some of you.

  1. It's actually very normal for babies to lose weight after they are born. They have a whole different feeding style after they are born. In the womb, all the nutrients they need comes from the umbilical cord and now she is having to learn to suck to eat. However, most babies are back to their birth weight by 2 weeks. I guess as long as she is eating ok and is not jaundiced anymore then maybe she is ok. If you are really worried about it though, call the dr office and tell them you want to bring her back in at 3 weeks to do another weight check. You are the mom and sometimes you just need to follow through on your worries if for nothing else but some piece of mind! Hope this helps some? Maybe someone else will have something more helpful.

  2. Hey Sweet, no probs with her current weight. E dropped a heap after being born and no probs. If the doc is not worried all should be good, but here we see a doc or midwife every week for about 6 weeks to keep a check on the weight, so don't hesitate to take her to the doc each week just to check her weight. As long as she settles after feeding and sleeps well all will be good.

  3. I would say it's normal but that she'll probably be back up soon. My only concern would be that she isn't jaundice. Definitely go in to your doctor if you are worried. You're paying--you should be able to go as much as you want! :)

  4. She isn't jaundiced, so that's not something I need to worry about. Thanks for all the comments.

  5. Oh Louisa! Congratulations! I didn't have internet for a while so I didn't know you had your little girl, but she is adorable!!! She has so much hair too, so cute! Don't worry about the weight thing, if your doctor is concerned, he/she will tell you. Breastfeeding is tricky enough without doctors making you worry for no reason.
