Emergency Room

On Friday Brighton went to the ER. So now both of my kids have gone to the ER before their second birthday.

On Thursday I had gone up to Girls' Camp and it was great! However, when I got home he had a fever. We gave him some medicine then went to bed. It wasn't the most restful night, seeing as he was so uncomfortable. The next day he still had his fever, but now he was also refusing food for the most part. So he was tired, irritable, hungry, and very, very hot. Suddenly, at around 5:00 p.m., he felt hotter than he had before and so we checked his temperature… 104.4. It was time to see a doctor.

I called my friend Erica to ask her something about insurance, and her husband works at the hospital. He said because of his age and how high his fever was we needed to head to the emergency room.

It turns out he had a virus that had caused a terribly bad sore throat. (I felt so bad that I had no idea.) They got his fever down some, tested for strep (which is where they figured out it was a virus so we just had to let it run it's course), then told me what to do for him. We were there for about 2 1/2 hours. I know that it wasn't a big deal and some wouldn't take their child to the ER, but I feel good about what I did and Brighton wasn't suffering as much after because of their help.

I learned a lot and I'm grateful to the doctors for their help. They were really sweet and called on Monday to check on him. They had told me if he wasn't better by Tuesday that he needed to go to his pediatrician.

Thank goodness for modern medicine!

Brighton Speaks!!!

Brighton turned 14 months old yesterday. Today he finally said "mama" and I knew for sure that he was talking to me. The past couple of weeks we were thinking he was really close to talking and he would say "mama, dada, lala (Lila)", but we weren't quite sure if he was really saying those things. Now I know he says mama and I'm sure the others are coming soon. :) It's so funny because sometimes he repeats after us and it sounds like he is saying exactly what we just said… sentences, phrases, words, he's just a good mimic. I can't wait to hear his cute little voice actually speaking!

The first week of July

I love the month of July. Summer is in full swing, fireworks happen, holidays are celebrated, parades come marching by and of course it's my birthday!

On the first I went up to Bridal Veil Falls with my young women. I also brought Lila along. She loved feeding the fish and hanging out with the "big kids".

Then on my birthday I had such a great time. I woke up to breakfast in bed, then I got to open my presents… a beautiful KitchenAid! I have been wanting one since before Micah and I were married so he decided to just go ahead and get me one. I'm glad he waited though because we were able to actually afford it, I got the color that I wanted and it came with so many fun extras! I can't wait to use it!  After presents, I got a delicious cake from Cravings Bakery in PG. So yum! Finally, Micah made us dinner. I finally used my mani/pedi gift certificate that a couple of my friends gave me and went patriotic. I also got a visit from my VT. They brought me a delicious cupcake. Then a really sweet lady in my ward brought me some balloons, flowers, and a charm with the Salt Lake temple on it. It was especially sweet because two of the balloons were actually for my kids. The yellow smiley face for Brighton and the princess one for Lila. How thoughtful! I had a wonderful 26th birthday.

On the fourth, I woke up early and got ready for the Freedom Run. I got Lila up also and we headed down to Provo. I had a great time running the 5k. My adorable niece also ran with a couple of my sisters and my brother-in-law. The temperature was really nice and I thought it was a great way to start off the holiday.

After the 5k I watched the parade with my family and then headed home to get some rest.

In the evening we headed back to Provo to watch the fireworks. Good times! Lila and Bright really loved them.

Happy 4th!
