Easter and Spring Break

This past week was Spring Break for Alpine School District. It was fantastic having it start off with Easter and ending with General Conference. This was Lila's first Easter being able to do fun things... last year I was sick. We went to an Easter egg hunt in Lindon on Saturday. Lila did not know what she was supposed to do. By the time she figured it out the eggs were GONE! She did end up with four and I was very proud of her. I thought because she did a little hunt on Saturday with lots of people she would love the one on Sunday with all of her cousins. She did a terrible job... she didn't want to pick them up so she would kick them or try and stomp on them. They were eventually all picked up, but you could tell that she didn't really get why we were having her do it. It was really funny! I videotaped it thinking that it would be so great to catch her with her first few Easter egg hunts, but it turns out that next year will probably be a lot better. :) It was still a lot of fun though and great to spend Easter with family. Church was also really great and it was wonderful to feel the spirit all day long because of it.

(I got the cutest picture of her with those bunny ears on, but now I can't find it. :( )

Looking at a plane in the sky... her eggs were the pink ones.

Once Spring Break really started we spent the first few days just being together as a little family. It was great to just relax and be with each other. We also got our registration notice for our car. Thinking that we would just pay the fee for getting it checked out and then for the registration we weren't super worried about cost. It turns out that one of our front tires had too much play in. A few weeks ago we hit a pot hole that was within a speed bump... yeah, it was really bad, and $750 later on April 2nd we're pretty much low on money for the ENTIRE month as I only get paid once a month... at the end. Anyway, we are definitely slim with money this month now, but I'm really grateful that we have savings and no debt (outside of a car payment), so in reality we're really blessed. We seem to continually get hit with huge bills of some type, but it seems to happen when we're somewhat prepared financially.

On to better and happier things I also did a lot of experimenting with cooking/baking this week. I made my first ever Indian food- Chicken Tikka Masala with Naan. It was very good, but I still LOVE Kohinoor's. I also made 100% whole wheat waffles... so good, and milk chocolate brownies- amazing! I was most proud of the brownies because I made them from scratch, including finely chopping the milk chocolate to melt and mix in. The rest was really easy. Micah loved them though and so it was all very much worth it. I also think things test better when I've put real effort into them.

We also did some service by taking a homeless person a meal. It was a real last minute decision, but Micah came home from the grocery store and told me about a man that he saw. We are the type to normally drive by, but I had just finished making taco soup and we decided that this could be a chance to actually give him something. I know that many of them can get help from other sources, but it still felt good to actually do something, because I always have a gnawing guilty feeling when we just keep going.

We did some temple work and can I say that I am so grateful that I have the temple dress that I do. I LOVE that it still fits even though I'm 28 weeks pregnant. It's great!

Finally, we also went to the aquarium in Sandy and Lila was in love with all of the animals. Like most children she just adores animals and making animal noises so she was in heaven. She especially loved the otters and snakes. It was so cute to hear her making noises and saying "wow!" all the time. She is seriously so adorable and I can't believe how much I love her. She makes me want to be a better person and I'm so blessed to have her.

The penguins

The Sea Otters (her favorite!)

The Electric Eel

We ended the weekend with General Conference which was so great. I will admit though, I need to watch the second Sunday session again as I fell asleep for part of it and then Lila was very distracting the rest of it. There were some amazing talks though.

I had a very nice vacation, but it went by way too fast. I only have 8 weeks left of teaching for the year though and then it will be time to be super focused on Brighton! Summer, I'm looking forward to you coming!

pregnancy pic

I haven't really posted many of these so I thought I would post one now. The first one is of me when I was 25 weeks 5 days with Lila and the second is 25 weeks 4 days with Brighton. Apart from the fact that the second picture is a very blurry one from my phone, I think I look pretty similar. Maybe a little smaller with Brighton, only because of the extra fluid with Lila.

Clothing Items 2 & 3

So February was really, really busy so I already got behind on making some sort of clothing item each month. It's okay though because I made Lila two little skirts this month... so I'm counting that. :) The purple one is finished, but I wasn't quite able to finish the white one all the way as I ran out of thread. It'll be completed by the end of this month though. They are super simple, but I like that I made something for her to wear. It's been fun getting better with my machine.

I once again had to use my phone for pictures. My camera battery is dead and I didn't realize this until a few minutes ago. Both materials are so much cuter than they look in the pictures.

Hair

My 21 month old has so much hair! Look at the these (terrible) pictures. It's already nearly half way down her back. It's a lot of fun, but it does get in the way. I just know she is not going to be able to sit through getting a haircut... I only want to cut her bangs anyway. It'll be interesting to see how Brighton is with hair. :)

Concussion

Last night my beautiful little 21 month old got a concussion. She fell off a chair and landed on her head. The minutes that followed were seriously scary. I'm just grateful Micah and I were both home to take care of her. When she first fell, Micah picked her up and he said that she was cockeyed and her limbs seemed to be frozen, then she seemed to come back to us but was having a VERY difficult time staying conscious. She never fully passed out though, thank heavens. She was then having a hard time crying even though you could tell she wanted to and she was super lethargic. After a couple of minutes she started throwing up and she threw up everywhere... all over me, the floor, the couch... That's when we decided we needed to go to the emergency room. I held her in my arms as we drove to the hospital. She was still so out of it. She couldn't even really move because she was so tired. I just wanted to keep her awake. She only moved in the car to lean forward again to throw up. I've never seen her throw up so much. Once we got to the ER we were immediately brought in and had to answer some questions about her. Because it was a head trauma we were helped pretty quickly. While waiting for the doctor, she was very clingy (which is completely understandable), but at the same time she wanted to get down  from our laps, then she would feel too dizzy and would need us to hold her again. She threw up again in the exam room, but at least started to kind of talk again. She had been completely silent before other than a little bit of occasional crying. The nurse came and gave her some nausea medicine. Once that got into her system she started to do a lot better. They had us wait at least an hour after before we could go home to make sure she was okay. If she wasn't returning to her normal self then we would have had to do a ct scan. They really didn't want to do one because she's so young and it's so much radiation, so when they gave us the option when she appeared to be returning to normal we decided against it. When we were discharged they said if we can't wake her up or if she starts to throw up again we were to bring her back in. They said she definitely had a concussion, but seemed to be recovering well. Micah and I got up several times last night to wake her up and make sure everything was okay. So far today she hasn't shown any signs of trauma, thank goodness!

The first few minutes of all of this were the scariest of my life. I could tell something was wrong and I hated that it wasn't an easy fix. By the end of our time at the hospital she was back to wanting nurses and doctors holding her and talking non-stop. She loves other people. It was a very long night, but I have so much to be thankful for. Lila ended up being okay and Micah was great the whole time.

You can't tell from the picture, but she was really pale.

She was starting to feel better at this point.
That day had been going so well. I woke up and went to the temple, we went shopping, cleaned our house, cooked food, did laundry, went for a walk, and were just having a great day. I'm grateful that even though there were scary moments, all things worked out in the end. I'm so grateful for the power of the priesthood. To know that Micah can give blessings is such an amazing gift. I'm grateful for the gospel in our lives and that we had the Lord to rely on.
