Food Storage

"Food storage to this generation will be as important as boarding the ark was in Noah's." ~Ezra Taft Benson

I've always felt really strongly about being prepared for tougher times just as the Church has encouraged us to, but Micah and I have seriously been talking about it and decided to get a start. We already had 72 hour kits which are great, and I've picked up some Jello, Pasta, cereal, and canned some fruit, but we needed to get further. Macey's is currently having it's case lot sale and so we decided to take advantage and add a little to our storage. Now we're still poor and don't have much room so we don't have a ton, but it was a great beginning. We got 24 cans of corn, 24 cans of green beans, 48 cans of tuna, 24 lbs. of brown sugar, 25 lbs. of sugar, 50 lbs. of flour, and some apple juice. The sugar and flour are especially great since I LOVE to bake and cook (after all the baking season is coming up!) and know we will go through it and we were able to save some money and have it in our storage for now.

We're excited about this beginning and are grateful to my mum for other canned goods. As we organize our area under the stairs and find more room we're going to be picking up rice, rolled oats, beans, fruit, and other things. We hope to build up our storage a little every month. I encourage all of you to get started on yours! I know there isn't always a lot of room or money, but just start with little things.

I CANNOT sleep!!

This is driving me crazy! I know I'm going to regret it in the morning. Lila is sleeping now so I should be sleeping, but my mind is racing. There isn't anything that I am specifically stressed about. I just wish it was tomorrow so I can start doing things. My poor husband is trying to sleep, but I know I keep disturbing him. I hate nights like this. Being restless is no fun. :( I am only writing this post because I am bored. I have to go to sleep... have to... have to... have to. Ok, good night!

5 weeks

Here are a few of the photos of Lila that my friend took for me. There are a few mixed throughout that my sister took when Lila was younger. There are more on facebook if you'd like to see them. I love every single one, so it was hard to pick just a few!

One month and more...

I can't believe that my baby is 1 month old! I know that's not very old, but I keep thinking "where did the time go?" Lila has been doing amazing. I can't give you her stats today, because I don't have another dr.'s appointment until 2 months so I'm looking for ideas of how/where I could weigh her to find out? Any suggestions? There are other things that I can report on though. In the past month Lila has been born ;), held up her head while laying on her tummy for 30 seconds, smiled while sleeping, smiled while awake, stayed awake for longer than an hour, brought the most amount of joy to my life that I can imagine, caused me to lose more sleep than I can imagine, and brought our family so close together and many, many more things. I love this little girl more than I thought I could, and can only guess at what is to come next. I'm so glad she is in our lives. We're looking forward to the rest of the time we have with our angel. We love you Lila!

I figured as I was posting so close to the 4th I might as well talk about that as well. On Saturday evening we went and watched the fireworks at the field by Provo Temple. It was a lot of fun, and we got to spend some good quality time with family and friends. I LOVE fireworks so I was really excited, but nervous about how Lila would be. I am happy to report that she was GREAT. She slept a lot of the time and when she was awake she wasn't fussy, but instead she simply ate then went back to sleep. In the pictures I know she is all bundled up, but I wasn't going to take any chances. I just think it's funny that it is July and it looks like December with how I dressed her. Don't worry... she wasn't too warm. :) Anyway, on Monday we had a family barbecue where we also celebrated my birthday, which was a lot of fun also, and then watched more fireworks that evening in my parents' neighborhood. This 4th was low key but so much fun. I discovered something this year also. I realize that lately I've been craving spending time with my family, on both sides. I loved having Micah's parents here and then any chance I can have to be with my family is welcomed. Don't get me wrong friends, I love hanging out with you too, but I think I just really want to make sure I stay close with my family as we are close, and especially since having Lila I want to make sure she gets to know all of her family as well. I think the further along I get in life, the more important my family is to me. I'm excited that Micah, Lila, and I were so blessed to have such great family members on both sides.

It's my birthday!

I am now 23 years old... not a special birthday, but still great. Micah was awesome and took me to buy a dress, which I love, and sandals, which are to come. I'm really excited about the dress because I'm going to wear it on Lila's blessing day and it will fit when I lose all my weight. He also took me to dinner and Lila was so good the whole time. My husband is so great and our daughter has been nothing but a blessing. I feel so spoiled. Life just keeps getting better and better!
